Dear Sis...

It begins... Dear Sis...
A simple letter
With a loaded message...

A promise 'to stay on his tippy toes'
As war calls him to battle
The time has come for him to fulfill his duty
Fulfill his promise to protect and to defend

The lyrics of a favorite song
Echo through his mind
Linking a brother's love
To a sister waiting at home

The home he defends
The home he protects
The home he will return to after 6 long months

But much as the promise to be careful is shared
A comfort is found in the promise of prayers
Prayers that will ground the soldier
Prayers that will connect the family

The first grain of foreign sand
Winging on the winds
Landing on the soldiers face
Will send a sense of purpose guiding him forward

The promises made to hold to the rifleman's creed
Shoot straight
Shoot first
Shall keep him focused
Shall keep him secure

Then the time will come
For a job well done
All the bags are packed... I'm ready to go
Leavin' the desert... by jet plane for home...

In person this time
The words shall be said
'This may sound weird, but I love you sis...'

Inspired by a brother's letter to his sister as he prepares to deploy.   A cousin and friend of his, shared it with me.
May they all be home safe and soon.
